Common Harvest: an alternative food and agriculture resource directory. 2nd ed. Compiled by Dan Guenthner, Rick Bonlender, and Dick Kulisheck. 150pp. 1993. Food Action Network, Inc., 5324 Park Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55417-1720. (612) 822-7607 Should we take it as a good sign that the alternative agriculture movement is alive and kicking that it is starting to get its own reference materials? Just how does one get in touch with others who are involved in this movement? Where does one go to find practical ideas on food production? Fortunately for those interested in answers to these questions, Common Harvest is an excellent resource. The editors of Common Harvest have put together a directory of the contemporary alternative agriculture movement. The directory is divided into main section like "Rethinking Our Home Landscape," "Exercising our Food Choices," and "Our Collective Landscape." Includes sections on small space food gardening, edible landscaping, xeriscaping, permaculture, food preservation, community gardening, community supported agriculture, rooftop gardening, ethnic gardening, gardening in low income communities, and perennial favorite, composting. Each section includes narrative that describes each concept, a list of additional resources, and a list of organizations which can be contacted. Some sections include descriptions of existing projects. An indispensable resource for alternative agriculture activists and those interested in seizing control of their food supply. -- Chuck Munson
