MujeresLibres is a new anarcha - feminist mailing list. Mujeres Libres means 'Free Women' in Spanish. This was the name given, in 1936, to an organisation of women anarchists who fought in the Spanish Revolution. These anarchists hoped their organisation would provide support to women, both in fighting for an anarchist revolution and in opposing women's oppression. It is to honour the work that they did and the inspiration that they provide that we name our list MujeresLibres.
This is a list for anarchist women. It is a space for us to meet, exchange information, and learn about each other and each other's struggles. It is not just concerned with "women's issues", but with all issues that affect us. We are not content to sit on the sidelines, we are all actively engaged in opposing capitalism. We wish to live in a free and equal society, one in which poverty and privilege, class and injustice, sexism and racism and all other oppressions, have been consigned to the history books.
We firmly believe that together we are strong. By communicating with each other we grow stronger. Primarily this is a list for women who, as the old slogan goes, educate, agitate and organise.
