Beehive Books

the behive infoshop has a good-sized (and growing) selection of books, periodicals, and pamphlets for sale that reflect our anti-racist, anti-sexist, and -heterosexist, anti-capitalist and anti-imperialist position. we sell literature not for profit, at a low 20% markup in order to make this information which we feel is important accessible to more people than would be otherwise exposed to it, and also to work on building a radical dialogue in our community about relevant issues.

Beehive Records and Zines

we understand that, as activists or as members of society, we have no foundation if our motivations do not spring from a self-sufficient culture. in our case, the d.i.y. (do-it-yourself) punk and hardcore scene provides part of that foundation. we recogni ze the role a thriving undeground cultural tradition can play in human struggle - both in building consciousness and in demonstrating alternatives to the existing order - and in return we are doing our part to help keep it alive. through the beehive store , we sell the products of the punk community - both local and international - at reasonable rates with as little corporate intervention as possible.

Beehive Freespace

the beehive freespace consists, among other projects, of a library of zines and books, a room of free thrift-store style clothes, and a room to be used for events, shows, meetings, etc. every friday evening we will be having some kind of cultural event (v ideos, speakers, discussions) as well as a cafe where coffee, tea, and food will be served. the intent of the freespace is that anyone interested should feel able to use the space in whatever way they desire; organizing their own events, holding meetings here, or whatever. contact the beehive if you have any ideas, if you or your group would like to make use of the space.

Beehive Events

in order to better support communities of resistance, we work on organizing and promoting events which bring people together and facilitate the sharing of wisdom and experiences. whether it's a chance for a travelling band to play a show for a bunch of l ocal kids or a discussion that gives us all a chance to educate ourselves about a certain issue, we believe that ultimately what keeps community alive is the power of face-to-face interaction, and we are doing our best to make that happen.

Getting Involved

the infoshop is open friday, saturday, and sunday from noon to 8 pm. feel free to step in, visit, shop, or just hang out during these hours.

we are always in need of volunteers to staff the infoshop. if you're interested, talk to someone working here and they will explain how everything works. call during shop hours to sign up to volunteer the next weekend.

finally, if you'd like to offer your input on the collective, or just get a fuller picture of what goes on, come to our open general meeting on the last tuesday of every month at 7:30 pm. for information on upcoming events, call the beehive hotline: (202 ) 667-2524.
