Number 15 of Here & Now magazine is scheduled to be published in March 1994. Submissions for articles are encouraged, especially where they fall within the magazine's areas of interest (see below) or where they describe particular experiences/activities of broader interest. When starting to prepare an issue of Here & Now, a letter soliciting articles is usually circulated to people known to be in broad sympathy with the magazine. This posting is an experiment in seeking articles from people who we may not already be in contact with. If you are unsure whether your article would fit into the magazine, please check over past issues and/or check with us first. Sending a synopsis before writing a full article would be particularly helpful for all concerned. ___________________________________________________________________ Here & Now is a journal which has been published sporadically over the past 8 years, initially by a small group of people based in Glasgow, but more recently by alternating production between people based in Central Scotland and West Yorkshire. The initial impetus towards starting the magazine was a perception that the thought and activity of the libertarian left was trapped in political and cultural marginal areas. The self-validation and obsession in these areas were felt to ignore too many aspects of what was actually happening in the world. Here & Now may also be regarded as distinctive in what it has paid scant attention to: the pretentions of political groups and aspiring parties. Several preoccupation can be seen to have emerged over the period of publication. For example, many articles have been published on the restructuring of workplace relations which has been so significant during the 1980s and 1990s. A number of articles have also criticised the complicity of the political Left in administrative and managerial programmes for diminishing popular autonomy in everyday life. Some topics in recent issues have been: No.14 Political Economy of Ecstasy; Whistleblowing; Fascism/Antifascism; Spacism No.13 Working in the Health Factory; Dispersed Fordism; The Scottish Assembly Mirage; The Childrens Act No.12 Managerialism; Serial Killing; the Travellers; The Orkney Case No.11 Cultural managers; Satanic Abuse; NHS Reforms For the curious, some articles are available by ftp from etext.archive.umich.edu:/pub/Politics/Spunk/texts/@pub/HN Back copies of issues 1-14 and subscriptions (3 issues for 3 pounds sterling in UK, 4 pounds outside UK) are available from Here & Now Here & Now c/o Transmission PO Box 109 28 King St Leeds Glasgow G1 5QP LS5 3AA
